MEET A BUDD – Caleb Gingell 🏈

Our final introduction is Caleb Gingell and he is a truly unique addition to the Be A Budd Collective — our first-ever non-hockey player!

Last year, Caleb reached out to Ryley with a simple goal: he wanted to get involved and give back. That initiative alone embodies what it means to Be A Budd.

Standing 6’4” and 268 lbs, Caleb plays defensive tackle for Joane Cardinal Schubert High School and is set to graduate in 2026. While his season was unfortunately interrupted by the teachers’ strike, Caleb’s commitment to the Collective hasn’t wavered — he still wanted to be part of something bigger than the game.

Playing hockey with the @goldenrocketsofficial of the @kijhlhockey Alex had this Sunday off and came home to Calgary. Knowing he would be back in Calgary, Alex reached out and asked if he would be able to take part in the SuperHEROS weekend by refereeing a morning game on a Sunday.

That’s part of what makes the collective members so special! Playing hockey in Golden, BC, Alex came back to Calgary and made time for the @heroshockey Hockey Players.

MEET A BUDD – Evan Gladu 🥅🏒

At just 8 years old, Evan Gladu returns to the Collective as our youngest member!
Last year, Evan raised $378 for SuperHEROS Hockey while playing for the Bastions de Blainville. This season, he’s back with the same team, aiming to raise even more through pledges for goals, assists, and hat-tricks. Evan reminds us that commitment, compassion, and community spirit have no age limit.

We’re so happy to welcome Evan back and wish him the very best for the season ahead!

L’an dernier, Evan a amassé 378$ pour SuperHEROS Hockey en jouant avec les Bastions de Blainville. Cette saison, il vise à recueillir encore plus de fonds avec la même équipe, grâce à ses buts, passes décisives et tours du chapeau. Meet 10-year-old Alexi Gladu, joining the Collective all the way from Blainville, Quebec!
Last season, Alexi raised $378 for SuperHEROS Hockey while playing with the Bastions de Blainville. This year, he’s back with a new goal: to beat that pledge total while playing for the U11BB Armada Jr. Thanks to his season sponsors, Alexi will earn donations for every goal and assist, plus an extra $10 for every hat-trick he scores!

For the 2024-2025 season, I wanted to try and get more people involved with #BeABudd, so I started the “Collective”. The Collective was a group of goalies, players and coaches from the @csshl, @aehl_ha and @theajhl that all worked together to help SuperHEROS, setting a goal of raising $20,000.

We also launched our first online auction with items either donated or autographed by @apexdistributioninc @westernhockeyleague @adrenalinsfs1 @nhlflames @hockeynight @thereklaws @jonnyhuby11 and @mikaelbacklund11.

On March 9, available members of the Collective, along with Collective sponsors Jesse Permann of EnerCorp, Kevin Swanson of @goaldevinc and Rob Rishaug of @dlrvinyl, took in a SuperHEROS practice and presented the program with a cheque of $27,887. With a couple more donations still to come in, that amount has increased to $29,846 and will help send a group of SuperHEROS to Anaheim for a hockey tournament.

With almost $50,000 raised over three years, I never thought the #BeABudd initiative would be where it is today and I have all the sponsors, donors, collective members, and @heroshockey to thank for it!

On March 9, available members of the Collective, along with Collective sponsors Jesse Permann of EnerCorp, Kevin Swanson of @goaldevinc and Rob Rishaug of @dlrvinyl, took in a SuperHEROS practice and presented the program with a cheque of $27,887. With a couple more donations still to come in, that amount has increased to $29,846 and will help send a group of SuperHEROS to Anaheim for a hockey tournament.

With almost $50,000 raised over three years, I never thought the #BeABudd initiative would be where it is today and I have all the sponsors, donors, collective members, and @heroshockey to thank for it!

2023-2024 was year two for #BeABudd. The plan was the same as year one, but try and get a few more donors to donate for my saves and shutouts with a goal of $10,000.

EnerCorp returned and three more donors signed up. These donors included DLR Vinyl Products, Adrenalin Source for Sports and the Meyer Family.

By the end of the season, $14,277 was raised and went towards the first ever Spring Friendship Series in Calgary. This event brought 80 SuperHEROS players from across Canada for a weekend tournament, a SuperHEROS takeover at the Bank & Baron Pub and showcased both Calgary Blind Hockey and Sledge Hockey.
