The Be A Budd logo represents a friendship, a journey, and the heart of what Be A Budd stands for.

​

In 2018, Harrison joined the HEROS Hockey adaptive SuperHEROS program in Calgary. At just 7 years old, he was the youngest player on the ice. He had never skated before, and in those first few weeks, even putting on full equipment felt like a big step.

 

But week by week, those steps turned into full strides.

 

A few minutes on the ice turned into five minutes, and then a little more. With encouragement, patience, and determination, those small moments added up. By the end of the season, Harrison proudly called himself a hockey player- and his dad, John, had a tough time getting him off the ice.

In 2022, Harrison decided he wanted to try something new and become a goalie. It was something he really wanted, but it also came with uncertainty and hesitation. Through the SuperHEROS program, he was introduced to Ryley Budd, and that connection changed everything.

​

Ryley became a source of encouragement and confidence, helping Harrison take that next step. What started on the ice quickly grew into a genuine friendship, one built through hockey, but strengthened through time spent together off the ice as well.

 

Today, Harrison is 14 years old and continues to play as a goalie with SuperHEROS, while also playing as a skater with the U15 Wolverines. His journey reflects growth, resilience, and confidence, and the impact that connection and support can have. We are incredibly excited to welcome Harrison next season as the first-ever SuperHERO to join the Be A Budd Collective, where he will raise funds through his goals, assists, and passes.

 

Harrison’s journey as a goalie and the growth of Be A Budd happened side by side. In many ways, they are connected, each shaped by the same values of encouragement, friendship, and believing in one another.

That’s why Harrison is part of the Be A Budd logo. Because Be A Budd is about more than giving back. It’s about showing up for each other, building confidence, and creating connections that truly matter.​​​
